Blocked is another fabulous read from LP Dover. It centers around Callie and Dallas. Dallas is the goaltender for the Charlotte strikers. Callie is an OR/ER nurse whose brother happens to be on the same team as Dallas.

Justin and Maddox (brother and cousin to Callie) do not like Dallas and are furious when they find out they’re dating. Promises were made to never hurt Callie and a semi truce was made.

Through multiple misunderstandings Dallas appears to be the bad boy that he was prior to Callie, causing heartache and grief. Through meddling friends and family though things get resolved.

This book is much more than just a bad boy hockey player falling in love. It encompasses true heartache, incredible joy and complete sadness.

LP Dover knows how to write a fabulous hockey read that revolves around two strong characters with an incredibly funny supportive cast.  One click this read for a great story.

Ideal Image by Freya Barker and KT Dove–Review

Ideal Image Ecover-2-2

Ideal Image is about Stacie Gustafson and Nick Flynn.  Stacie is a single mother of a nine-year-old named Mak. She is a lawyer by trade, but is currently working from home, doing research for other lawyers. Nick Flynn is a corporate lawyer who lives in the small town that the Gustafson’s live in.

This is considered the second book in the ‘Snapshot novel’ series; however, there is a prequel and book number 1 that go along with Ideal Image. It is highly recommended that you read, Shutter Speed and Freeze Frame first, as each book builds on the previous. There is a different plotline in Ideal Image as they pertain to Nick and Stacie, however, Stacie is still suffering personal and emotional repercussions from the previous books.

This is a wonderfully emotional story that is full of heartwarming and heart wrenching moments. It is full of drama, suspense and mystery, along with romance and love. Freya and KT have written an exquisite book that is a huge paged turner.

Nick knows Stacie from back in college, however, Stacie doesn’t remember who he is. She is very self-conscious of some physical scarring that she had obtained in a previous accident. Through her sister-in-law, Isla, she becomes involved in a local children’s burn foundation. Isla has taken a multitude of portraits of Stacie to be auctioned off. Nick has always admired her from afar, but doesn’t think he has a chance at a beauty like Stacie. So, he continues to admire her from afar, by purchasing one of her portraits at the auction. Through these pictures, she encounters a ghost from her past. She learns that she must rely on those that love her, along with friends and people in her community for support. She doesn’t need to do things on her own.

It has romance, but also has elements of learning self-love and acceptance. Freya and KT have written an exquisite book that is more than a story, but an incredible telling of real life situations and scenarios. Their use of slightly ‘unorthodox’ heroes is great twist on usual take on usual romance books. In reading you realize that not all good things happen in your 20’s; there is a lot of living for other generations as well.  I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend it!!

Title: One Shot
Series: Chances #1
Author: BJ Harvey
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: November 16, 2017
Boy meets girl, boy wins girl, boy nails girl—boy’s gone by morning.

I think for sure it must’ve been a dream because there’s no way a guy could look like that, touch me like that and be so in tune with me on every known level, and disappear, leaving me with nothing but a good story to tell my friends.
When he walks into my bar three months later, everything I thought I knew and what we’d had disappears in the blink of an eye and the blinding light of the three-carat diamond on his fiancée’s hand.
It seems what I thought was a dream is now my most complicated reality, and I’ve got absolutely no idea how to fix it – or if I even want to.

I rush out from behind the bar and through the swinging door. I’m almost at the end of the corridor when the door opens behind me and I freeze. My chest tightens, because if it’s either of the two men I think it could be, there’s no way this will end well.
He comes closer, each step like an echo matching the impending doom I feel in my gut.
“I got your message.”
“Good,” I reply, fighting every urge I have to turn toward him.
“And you were right. You do deserve better.”
“I do.”
“I hate the thought of him touching you.”
I gasp, my mouth dropping open at his admission.
“I’ve known him for thirteen years. He’s supposed to be my best man. I love him like a brother but I hate him touching you.”
Oh no he didn’t. I spin around and come face to face with Millen, his face tight, his arms crossed over his chest. “What?” I spit out.
“It’s not right. I love him like a brother and I want him happy. Just not happy with you. Especially not happy touching you.”
“How dare you?” I grind out, my jaw so rigid my face hurts.
“I hate seeing you with anyone that’s not me.”
My eyes bug out, completely dumbfounded. He’s crazy if he thinks he has any say in who I see.
“You’re a joke,” I spit out, the blood simmering in my veins now boiling over. Lifting my hand up, I poke my finger hard into his chest. “You’re the one with the problem. It’s was you who came up to me. You that lied and said you were single.” My voice threatens to break but I power through it. “You made me become the one thing I never wanted to be—the other woman. And to her. You’re such a fucking ass—”
The rest of the word gets stuck in my throat when he wraps his hand around my neck and crashes his mouth into mine. His body crushes me into the wall as he kisses the shit out of me. And—dammit—it’s a good kiss—a scorching-hot, never-to-be-the-same-again kiss.
I tear my lips free and shove him back. I step forward, and my hand darts up. With a resounding crack, I slap him across the face. I try again but before I can make contact he catches me, swings my arm behind my back, pins me in place and kisses me again. I fight him off for a second before giving in. My anger melts away as he tastes me, his tongue plundering my mouth. I grip his hair with my free hand, pulling the strands tight, his guttural groan vibrating through me, setting my entire body on fire.
His hips grind against mine and all of the memories from three months ago come flooding back. The way he took control, the way he played my body as if he’d known me years not hours, and how I thought that night might have been the start of something different, something life-changing.
I match his kiss stroke for stroke, the air sparking with the sheer heat between us. I know in the back of my mind that this will be the last time I kiss him, and I want to take my fill.
A throat clearing breaks our lust-fueled haze, snapping us back into reality.
Millen steps back like a caught schoolboy, both of us turning to find Drew at the entry to the hall, his eyes blazing. We stand there in silence, our labored breathing audible over the quiet hum of the music in the bar.
“Drew,” I whisper.
He cuts his narrowed glare from his best friend to me. “Dinah asked me to come get you.” His voice cuts through me, his tone cold as ice.
“Drew, I—”
“A big group just came in and the girls are getting slammed,” he says, his jaw set tight.
I move toward him. “It’s not
He shakes his head, opening his mouth to say something, but he slices his gaze through Millen and stops on me. “I’m going, but you,” he says, pinning Millen with a cold stare, “you should get back to your fiancée. You know, the woman you should be kissing.” With that, he turns and slaps his palm against the door, swinging it open and stalking out without another word.

“Now boarding Gate Five to Berlin, Germany,” the intercom shouts and I bang on the table to get the flight attendants attention. “That’s where I have to be,” I shout at him to give me back the ticket. “No, you’re on the next plane, that one is overbooked,” he continues to push the keys on board and stare at a screen. “Listen, I’m not actually here to board any plane. I needed a ticket to get back here to stop the guy I love from getting on a plane without knowing how I felt about him. So, I need to go back,” I start to ease away to make my escape when I feel another attendant put a grip on me. “Let go,” I scream. “Listen, do you know how many people tell us this sad love story shit? Plenty. We know the drill and we’re fed up with it. The airport is not a place to confess your everlasting love for someone. Either you board the plane with the ticket you purchased or you leave the airport immediately.” “Let go!” My screams getting louder, “Elliot Harper. Can you hear me? Elliot?” I scream. “Ma’am, I’m going to have to ask you to simmer down,” he pulls away nearly hurting my arm with his grip. “Elliot!” I scream, but I don’t see him, I don’t hear him. Silence. And I realize, it might be too late. I lost my chance.

Move the Stars (Something in the way, book 3) by Jessica Hawkins–Review

jhmovethestarsbookcover5x8_high.jpg

Rating: 5.0 stars

To be honest, I don’t know how I feel about this book, which I don’t believe is necessarily a bad thing. My first reaction after getting done reading it, was that I hated it. Just plain hated it. But after some downtime and soul searching I realized why. It was because, that was how Ms. Hawkins wrote it. It was intended to be frustratingly emotional, angsty and heart wrenching. In order to write these characters with so much grit there needed passion to be involved. Passion for the characters, passion for the words the author wrote and a passionate response from the reader themselves.

I love the idea/concept of Lake and Manning together. They just seem to fit. I just couldn’t wait for these two to get their act together.  I really did dislike Tiffany and her obnoxious behavior (carryover from Something in the Way, book 1). However, she wasn’t the only one. Manning needed to up his game and seemed to fall short. It was difficult to read about these two, because just when you thought it was finally time for them to get together, something else would happen. To say they had many factors against them is an understatement.

When I think about why it hit me so hard, it’s because of the many things these guys went through. It is so easy as the reader (an outsider) to see what they’re doing and what could be done to correct it, yet can’t seem to get it right. In that aspect, Ms. Hawkins did a fabulous job to not give us a cookie cutter romance. I would love to see more of their future together as well as updates on Tiffany, mom and dad, etc. This series tore me apart and ripped me open, but I was finally able to piece myself together at the end.

With all that being said, I am SO going to miss Lake and Manning. They had a quintessential angsty love story that hits you hard. Kudos Ms. Hawkins for writing a stellar ending to this series. Despite everything I have said, I, truly, LOVED this book (series) and am sad to see Lake and Manning go.

Southern Attraction by Kaylee Ryan–Review

e8cef-southern2battraction2bebook2bcover

Southern Attraction is the third book in the Southern Heart series. This book focuses on Mike and Jamie, whom had been introduced previously. Despite this, Southern Attraction can be read as a standalone without too much confusion.

Mike Is a country boy who runs Mike’s Tavern, which is a third-generation family business, with his sister, Olivia. He happens to be the stereotypical southern gentleman, whom is kind, loves his momma, respects his daddy and cherishes women in his life.

Jamie is a Chicago city girl through and through. She works as a paralegal and has big career aspirations. She is an only child, but her parents live in Chicago as well.  Until recently, her best friend Whit (who happens to be Mike’s cousin) had lived in Chicago, but now lives in Kentucky with her fiancée.

About six months prior, Jamie came for a visit and got introduced to the whole group. This is where she first meets Mike. They had an instant attraction, but realized she was only here for a short amount of time.  Currently, Jamie is helping Whit get prepared and organized for her upcoming wedding, leaving time for Jamie and Mike to get reacquainted and see if there is a future for them. Mike is such a great guy, it was very hard to not root for him throughout the book.

Kaylee Ryan did an incredible job of writing this sweet, funny and sexy book about friends to lovers that I devoured it in one sitting. Miles may separate these two, but sometimes heart and head don’t always see eye to eye.  So, which one wins? One click and find out!!
