Personal Foul by Hayley Faiman–Review

Personal-Foul-Ebook-2[10596]
Ok, so here’s the deal, I am normally known for long reviews. Here’s the thing though, all I had to go on was the blurb. No reviews, no promotional material, etc. So, with that being said, I want you to be able to go into this blind and just reading the blurb.

Hayley Faiman is a fairly new to me author, but her writing on this book was phenomenal. The plot, storyline and characters were top notch. Fortunately, (or unfortunately depending on the character) these characters were very relatable. Ms. Faiman does touch on some taboo/possible triggering topics.

As far as the characters go, I love Cole and his interactions with Jessa. Throughout the book you really feel the love and protection that he has towards Jessa. I will say that Jessa did a lot of maturing through this book and it was wonderful to see.

In all honesty, though, this is a really good book and I wouldn’t hesitate to one-click it!! As far as the rest of the book goes, let’s see if I can some it up some using GIF’s.

Commander in Chiefs by Kristy Marie–Review

I got done reading this yesterday, but needed to ponder this for a moment.  It was a strange book hangover mashup and, honestly, I still don’t know how I feel. Let me try to explain. It begins with one word, Theo.

scratch donkey GIF

Theo is an ass. There is no other way to put it. His asshole tendencies seem to increase when he didn’t get his way and Anniston started to do her own thing. He is like a splinter caught under your fingernail that keeps burrowing its way further under your nail. He’s annoying, childlike, pampered and completely an ALPHA male. Here’s the thing though, I’m not mad about it. I hated it so much that I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this book. Kristy Marie has a knack of not only bringing these characters to life, but make you feel like they are your best friends. Every dumbass thing he did, I wanted to scream and smack him upside the head. (Apologies to our dear couch who had to endure the ‘smacks’ upside the head and to my husband who jumped every time I did this, asking ‘are you alright? That good of a book that it requires reader participation?’. Sorry dear)

Anniston was my home girl. What turned into a simple 😉 request among friends turned into SO MUCH MORE (and I’m not talking about her relationship with Theo). She is the be all, end all IT heroine. She has endured so much in her life, yet just like the rest of us is trying to figure where her life is headed. As a Doctor in Sports Medicine, she is basically everything to Theo and his playing career. His personal 😉 MD, trainer, coach and morale support. She grew up with a love of baseball from her grandfather and it never left her. To see her interact with Cade and the other men, is INCREDIBLE. Oh yeah, did I mention that this book is a ‘hybrid’ of sorts between a sports romance and a military romance. (Kristy Marie two thumbs up for phenomenal writing of this mashup. ABSOLUTELY loved it!!)

Cade. What can I say about Cade. I FLOVED HIM and I can’t wait to read his book!!! Being the bleeding heart that Anniston is, she finds him on the street and can’t help herself, she has to help him. She takes him in, nurses him back to health and makes him feel loved and wanted. Her thought process of returning to the Marines was brilliant (reverse psychology at its best). She works him to the bone and in the process, they develop a Commander and Major relationship. Here’s the sticky thing with our asshole hero, he doesn’t like someone sniffing around ‘his’ goods. He feels threatened by Cade and his relationship with Anniston. Cade thinks he loves her, but knows that nothing can happen. Let’s just say that Theo asserts his dominance (aka…pissing contest) frequently to show the other men in her life to keep their hands off. Anniston is Theo’s and vice versa, but neither have gone to next step of making it ‘official’. Besides being a medical doctor, Anniston, takes it upon herself to heal war veterans back to health. Now, don’t think she is the Florence Nightingale type, she is more the drill Sergeant type to whip these men into shape. Hence, where the Commander came from. The way it was written and how she went about loving these men is downright ingenious. She truly deserves a medal.

Now you may question why I started writing about three characters. Well, that’s because this story is about Theo, Anniston and Cade (including a few other military men). I know what you may be thinking, but no this is not a love triangle type of book. There is no cheating, so if you’re squeamish about that, there’s no need to be. Relationship boundaries are tested, but that make this a fabulous, explosive read. The connection between the a-hole and the firecracker heroine is undeniable. There will be fireworks for you as a reader long after the read is done. They are hands-down a steamy couple with no regards to when and where that steam takes place. Theo and Anniston take you on some crazy shenanigans and rampant rides, but their love for each other is truly evident. These capers that they take you on are hilarious, heart-warming and downright bloody brilliant.

Commander in Chief is a book like no other. Kudos and hands up to Kristy Marie for an astounding, breathtaking and mind-blowing first book. I devoured this book and have no qualms in saying, ‘I want more’. I can’t believe their wild ride is done. Kristy Marie, you left me in an emotional upheaval! I want to THANK YOU for that epilogue (insert sigh).  I love epilogues and that was a perfect ending to a perfect book. I must say you have skills, girl, and I can’t wait to see what comes next. Tiny request from one little reader/blogger…Do we REALLY have to wait until mid-2018 for Cade’s book, because, I so want it. Like now😊! I, truly, highly recommend this book. If you love your asshole heroes and your incredibly strong and quick-witted heroines, you will love this book.

“I am certain I’ve loved Theo Von Bremen since middle. His quick wit and assdole personality appeasled tome like chocolate and sweatpants on a Friday night. We became fast friends, but anything further was too complicated.”

Strip Me Bare by M. Never–Review

Strip Me Bare Ebook Cover.pngHoly Crap, let me just say a few things. One: I LOVE books about strippers. They just seem to have some sort of baggage that always makes a book great. Two: M. Never is a new to me author and after reading this book, I have figured out that M. Never is now a ‘one-click’ author for me. Three: Fan-tab-u-lous!!

This is a second chance romance that revolves around Alana and Ryan. They had known each other five years previously. They were having a wonderful time getting to know each other and the *poof*, Ryan was gone in a second.

During this time, Ryan went off to do what he felt he had to do, but NEVER forgot about Alana. He felt that she was better off without him.

The following is a motto that was pounded into his head continuously and at times, he believed it.

“The pauper doesn’t end up with the princess, he ends up on his ass.”

Without Ryan, Alana went off to law school and to her father’s delight, she is on track to become a successful lawyer. Even getting an internship at her uncle’s famous law business. While attending school, her life and future is dictated by her father, since he is paying for her schooling, apartment and daily expenses. Alana knows that she has always wanted to be a lawyer, but she gets no encouragement or love from her father. Her surrogate father is her uncle. Like Ryan, she has never stopped thinking about him and wondered ‘what if’.

While attending a bachelorette party for her cousin, she meets the famous ‘Jack the Stripper’. Well the surprise is on her, it’s Ryan Pierce. Why is he stripping? What got him here? What happened in the past five years? What happened to him, that last night they were together?

Strip Me Bare Teaser 2

Ryan and Alana are wonderful together. Strip Me Bare is a very emotional read with moments of hilarity, mixed in with true to life issues. So, what happens now? Are they able to overcome, their issues of the past before they catch up with them? Is there a happy and successful relationship in their future? Do they have a future? Pick up Strip Me Bare to find out.  LOVED IT!!!! I mean, just look at that cover. What a cutie!!

Hero Next Door by Lara Swann–Review

Hero Next DoorHero Next Door is a fun, quirky, sensual, sexy and emotional read. It is about Naomi, Mack and Tyler. Both leads have experienced abusive and emotionally damaging relationships. The difference is that Naomi’s only include her, unfortunately including both emotional and physical abuse at the hands of her ex. Mack has a son named Tyler and both have experienced emotional abuse and potentially damaging self-respect issues, especially aimed towards his young son.

Naomi has finally ‘grown a pair’ and left her abusive ex. After some bouncing around, she has finally landed in a small town and feels that she is finally home (as well as losing her ex in the process). She meets Mack just after moving in. His son comes over to help her try and move one last piece of furniture into her house. Mack comes over looking for his son and meets Naomi. They have an instant attraction to each other, but as you’ve read up until here, they both have issues.

Mack is a security consultant and works for a private security company. Due to this, his house is very well equipped with a security system. He ex still lives in the small town, but because of what happened between them, he tries to have no interaction with her for both his and Tyler’s sake.

To say that these two have issues (great now I have Julia Michaels song, Issues, in my head) 😊, is an understatement. However, the beautiful thing about this book is that they work on them together, even though their intent is to stay away from the other. Impossible to do for a few reasons: 1) Naomi works as a teacher at the same school that Tyler goes to. In fact, she is a teacher in the same grade, except he is in the other classroom. 2) Naomi and Mack live next door to each other. Whether it’s coming or going or they see each other out in their respective yards, they can’t seem to avoid the other. 3) Lastly, Naomi LOVES to bake and this is the one thing her ex gave her heck on, so she never did it. Now, it relaxes her and she does it all the time. Besides bringing treats to work, she usually ends up at Mack’s house with a batch of something.

Mack and Naomi are just beautiful together. They each have a strong personality, using their past experiences to build themselves up. They just needed to find their ‘perfect match’ to make them complete. Tyler is just the cutest kid. Oh, my goodness, he was easy to fall in love with. I really loved this book and felt attached and invested with all of them. There are many twists and turns throughout the book that will keep you hanging until the very end.

Rock Solid by Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde–Review

CPEWRockSolidCover5x8_BW_HIGH[10501].jpg
I was immediately drawn in by the premise of this book. Normally, I’m not a second chance kind of girl, but I’m slowly being reformed. Rock Solid is a wonderful book about not only second chances, but falling in love, resolving trust issues, reuniting father/daughter and searching for one’s own true happiness.

Connor Prescott and Katie Kaswell were snowed in on Valentine’s Day in the Denver airport. He was returning home from business and she was leaving with a broken heart. From the word go, they felt some sort of attraction (not only physical, but an intellectual one as well) and decided to see where it goes. Well, it led to dinner, conversation and a one night stand (neither of which had done before). Throughout this, they maintained anonymity, deciding not to know each other’s name.

Skip to three and a half years later, and Katie has a daughter named Val (short for Valentine, get it, because they met on Valentine’s Day), a career that allows her to work from home and no way to get in contact with the birth father. That is, until she sees him in a magazine one day.

Connor and Katie have many hurdles ahead of them to determine where, if anywhere, this new relationship dynamic will take them. Connor himself is just plain hot and I don’t mean in a descriptive way. He truly embraces the role of ‘newfound daddy’ to the fullest. He is quite successful, but that doesn’t necessarily make him a great catch, he is just a great guy. He jumps in to take care of both Katie and Val and realizes that he can’t push Katie, but needs to sit by patiently to get what he truly wants😉! He has great parenting skills and to see him interact with Val is just ovary overload.

Katie has had trust and abandonment issues in the past and is slow on the reciprocal feelings for Connor. Her main concern is and always should be Val. I must give props to Katie though, because she did take the initiative and contact Connor about being a father. Some women in her situation may not have done the same.

I feel the true gem of the story, though, is Val. She is absolutely an adorable little girl. She is so smart, witty and just plain cute. Her interactions with Connor, both when she didn’t know he was her father and when she did, just stole the show. Oh my gosh, this time, ovary exploding!!

Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde did a fantastic job on this book and I look forward to reading more from them in the future. Rock solid gets a Rock Solid score from me of 5 stars!!
