Reckless by Lex Martin–Review

75e61-reckless2bebook2bcoverFour words for you: One click this NOW!! Lex Martin is a new to me author, but I’m extremely happy that I found her. I was unaware of her previous book, Shameless, that was about Tori’s sister. Being that this book is in a series, my not reading the first one, didn’t matter as this could be read as a standalone.

Tori is a twenty-three year old UT college student. She is spunky, young, fun, lovable and considered the outcast/black sheep/loner of the family. She is not the picture-perfect student and more concerned with partying and having fun. She thought she had a wonderful boyfriend, Jamie. However, she has experienced an extremely horrible experience with love and Jamie not being who he says he is. This affected her life greatly with the biggest being that she is now a college dropout after failing her classes her senior year. She has decided to go on a ‘man free’ diet for a year and try to get her head on straight. Kat, Tori’s sister, is extremely pregnant and lives about 40 minutes outside of Austin. She tells Tori the news that she is considered a ‘high risk pregnancy’ and approaches her with a job as a live-in nanny to their neighbor.

Ethan is a phenomenally caring and loving man who truly does have the world on his shoulders (luckily, he’s got some great shoulders😉). He is going through an extremely god-awful divorce to a shrew of a woman. He is trying to co-parent with her, but she, unfortunately, doesn’t want anything to do with them and ignores them, unless it benefits her. So, Ethan, is busy raising his kids by being mom & dad, keeping the family farm afloat, take care of his mom and younger brother, Logan. He feels pulled extremely thin and when Logan approached him with Tori as a live-in nanny, he is reluctant, but slowly acknowledges he needs help. Let’s just say, these two created sparks and friction from their first meeting and not necessarily good ones. Luckily, the children love Tori and even Ethan notices that they need some normalcy in their life and if Tori can give it to them, he will take the sacrifice of not necessarily getting along.

Considering their backgrounds with love and the opposite sex, both are guarded and reluctant to expose themselves to the other not to mention even entertaining the idea of a relationship. There is also the little matter that technically Ethan is her boss and she doesn’t want to get involved in a boss-employee relationship. Despite all this, sparks are developed over time and they realize they are attracted to each other. Ethan and Tori have many obstacles they need to encounter before they can think about a HEA.

I flipping loved these two together. I loved Tori’s spunk and sassiness. I loved seeing her grow from beginning to end. She turned out to be an extremely strong character. Ethan, oh Ethan, who in their right mind would leave him. Hello, with his shaggy dirty blond hair, sun-kissed skin, muscles for miles, extreme love for each of his children and in my mind an extremely sexy southern drawl. Seriously, who would leave him? His children were FREAKING adorable. Yes, they are five and two, but they had some serious personality and character. Lex Martin wrote these two children perfectly (especially the daughter) in regard to how young children are affected and how observant they are during divorce. Beautiful and sad at the same time.

“Pretty sure the people next to us hear my ovaries explode and splat on the floor.”

I, wholeheartedly, approve of this book. I love every aspect of this book. Seriously, click don’t sample, this book.

Secretly, I am crossing my fingers and toes for a book about Logan and possibly Joey🤞!!! Here is a little taste of Logan’s humor and personality.

“‘You know, some girls don’t consider anal to be sex.’ This is why every father in a twenty-mile radius locks up his daughter when Logan Carter’s around.”
