Twisted Betrayal by Siobhan Davis–Review

😲😮Sweet Lemony Snickets! Heavens to Betsy!! Well, smack my a@@ and call me Sally!! What in tarnation, did I just read?!😮😲

Siobhan Davis, you never fail to astound me with your writing. Twisted Betrayal is everything the title implies. I thought at the end of Cruel Intentions, this couldn’t get any better. I was riding such a high, that when I started TB, I felt like that high would continue. In fact, I really had to settle myself back down, because the high at the end of Twisted Betrayal was nowhere near the ending in Cruel Intentions. This could be my fault, because I read them back to back, but nonetheless, both were freaking incredible. I am straining my brain trying to figure out how this could possibly end with a happily ever after, because right now, I am gutted.

There is so much tension, betrayal, deceit, drama, suspense, I could feel these characters drowning in all the emotions being thrown around with no end in sight. Just when you think you are going down with them, there’s a little light at the end of the tunnel and you think Abby and Kai are going to get some sort of happiness. But no, Siobhan must say in her head, ‘Oh no, let’s throw them through the ringer again and see what happens’!! I think I have bruises from how many times my jaw hit the floor. What I do know is the my TMJ hurt like the dickens, because of said action. Siobhan Davis…you slay me!!

Some basic principles in this world are we are all born, and will all die, there are people who will always love and protect us, our parents (theoretically), and you can live in three different time dimensions; the past, the present and the future. Abby and Kai experience all these principles, but for them, they aren’t necessarily given.

If you wanted to meet the devil/Lucifer/Satan, all you have to do is read Twisted Betrayal and search ‘Michael Hearst’. Abigail is the unfortunate recipient of having him as a father. He is a vile, maniacal, psychopath with illusions of grandeur topped off with a Narcissistic Personality Disorder. I despise, Michael Hearst with a passion and as you read, you will begin to understand why. My heart bled for Drew and Abby to have to grow up with this character as a ‘father’ (and I use the term loosely).

I was thoroughly sucked in and invested. Twisted Betrayal grabbed me by the heart and didn’t let go, even long after reading it. It’s been a few days since I read this and I’m still in emotional book hangover. Simply put, if you love emotional reads laden with lots of drama, deceit, and the inability to guess what’s going to happen next, Twisted Betrayal is for you.

*Keep in mind, this is a harsh book, that may not be easy for all to read, but if this kind of stuff doesn’t bother, MUST READ!!*

Crew Princess by Tijan–Review

Let me start this my saying that I love Tijan. She has so many powerful and meaningful books, that when I see she has a new one coming out, I’m like, ‘yes please’. However, it pains me to say this, but I was a little disappointed in Crew Princess. It seemed to fall a little flat compared to the rest of the series, but I’m not exactly sure why.

Jordan, Zellman, Cross, and Bren are still tight as ever in their Wolf Crew and have matured and grown over the course of the book. Bren is in a quandary as she tries to figure out what she’s going to do after graduation, if she makes it that far. The rest of the crew already have plans, but she doesn’t know where this leaves her. Cross and her are as adorable as ever. Would you call Cross adorable? 😏😉

‘Your first loyalty is to the crew, but mine is to you.’

As mentioned previously, the Wolf Crow is tight. They are loyal to the fullest, will protect each other with their lives, and are their own family unit. I loved the ‘love’ these four had for each other and never once did they question where their loyalty laid or what they should do in any given scenario. These guys are going to need it with the war that is headed their way.

There is plenty of action throughout with multiple Crew’s involved. Roussou has had to take in students from other high schools, and since then the crews have been scrambling to regain and dominate their turf.

“We were the Wolf Crew, the smallest crew in the Roussou crew system, but also the most dangerous one.”

Let’s talk about Cross for a second. Cross (insert sigh) is still the alpha leader of the crew. Dare I say this, but his relationship with Bren is quite refreshing. There aren’t many ‘PDA’ moments in this book, but what they do share is very sweet. You can really feel the love between these two. Despite being in high school, he is a Hero that one could only hope for.

‘We caught the end of one girl telling her friend to just do it, “break the a@@ seal.” Cross shot me a grin over his shoulder. I shook my head. Not solid advice, on any day.’

I mean, come on. All it took was one glance over his shoulder and he had Bren had their own non-communicative conversation. That’s why I love their relationship.

I’m slightly confused on Bren. I love her, because she is a super strong heroine, but in CP we got to see a different side of her. With the realization that things are moving and changing, she becomes more emotional which is a contrast from her hard, dark persona. I feel like this was to humanize her a little bit to show her growth and change. I’m just used to seeing her a certain way and it felt unnatural. What I absolutely adored more than anything though was her interaction with Harrison. This completely felt natural and truly showed that she was changing and growing.

Despite all this, I am still a huge Tijan fan. Will I still read and buy her books? Heck yeah, because I’m curious to see what she has in store for us is Crew Love (Wolf Crew #3).

Something Like Hate by Claudia Burgoa–Review

Miller and Claire were a joy to read. Claudia brought us something lighthearted and fun, but still had emotional development throughout the book. Neither necessarily believed in love and romance, but sometimes you find what you’re looking for when you’re not really looking.

‘The only one holding me in one piece is Miller Archer, and I’m not sure how I’ll survive the rest of my life without him.’

Claire is a slave to her job. She loves what she does, but is always being disturbed by her boss, Darth Vader (Devon Evans) and ultimately by his boss, Emperor Palpatine (Miller Archer). Claire is on her way to a well-deserved vacation, where she runs into Miller. Miller is off to his sister’s destination wedding when he finds out his ‘plus one’ has cancelled. If he doesn’t want to be set up by his mother, he needs to bring a date. By sheer fate, he bumps into Claire Solis, his number one employee. World meet Miller’s plus one, Claire, only through a little bribery.

‘”So, it’s just for now, nothing serious?” she finally asks. “It’ll be casual, brief, and yet unforgettable,” I promise and seal it with another kiss.’

Things look like they are going swimmingly for this (fake) new couple, but be careful, because not all things are meant to last. Things begin to fall apart for them, both personally and professionally. Fast forward a couple years and Miller has a rough road in front of him. Claire is it, but he’s got a lot to prove.

Claire and Miller are incredible leads. Claire she’s feisty and a strong-willed person, while Miller is an Alpha, but soon learns that you catch more bees with honey than with vinegar. It’s nice to see a man that is alpha fall to his knees for ‘the girl’.

Something Like Hate is a wonderful read. You will feel a tug on the heartstrings and get a little emotional as well.
