I don’t know why, but this book wasn’t what I was expecting. Instead it morphed into something more delicious, more sinister, darker and more twisted. If you ever want to feel good about your family, take a peek at this book. Three words for you, Holy Dysfunctional Families, but that makes Hidden Truths that much better.

Talia struck me originally as this flighty, average college girl, but I soon learned that I was wrong. So very wrong. She isn’t your typical bad@ss heroine, but she is strong, intelligent and uses this to help her endure the little situation of an arranged marriage.

Kostas. He was very intriguing. He struck me as this alpha mafia baddie, but was he displaying his true self? I was completely in a battle with Kostas. I hated him, no, I loved him, and this went on throughout the book. Eventually, he was oh, delicious and yummy!

K Webster and Nikki Ash wrote one heck of a book. I am completely sitting on pins and needles to read book 2, Stolen Lies. I had many questions answered, but for every question answered, it felt that I had two more pop up. I can’t wait to find out what ride these two have in store for us.

Violent Triumphs (White Monarch, book 3) by Jessica Hawkins

Violent Triumphs is the conclusion in the epic White Monarch series. Throughout this series, we have seen the tale of Natalia de la Cruz and Cristiano de la Rosa on their way to the penultimate ending in Violent Triumphs.

Violent Delight and Violent Ends had me flabbergasted, shocked, agitated, befuddled, enthralled, and longing for more. I seriously could not get enough of book 1 and 2. Violent Triumphs is straight up leaving me confused. Although, it’s fantastic to see Natalia step into her own as an adult and cartel queen, I feel like I was missing the ‘Bam’ or ‘punch’ that I have seen and felt through VD and VE. It also appeared to me like Violent Triumphs is two different books. The first half is very mellow and concentrates on Natalia and Cristiano’s relationship, with Natalia slowly beginning to realize who she is. The second half is the fast tempo, cartel setting that this series was built upon. The ending is… (I’ll leave you with that).

It all boils down to this. Can Jessica Hawkins write? Without a shadow of a doubt. Is she talented? Please, I wish I had even an eyelash amount of her talent. Would I recommend this series to anyone? I have and I will. Am I slightly disappointed at the ending? Just a smidge, but I firmly anticipate a re-read without having all the hype to soak up everything that happens in this book. I know because I was chomping at the bit to read the final book, that I set the bar high. Probably ridiculously high, so when it came time to read Violent Triumphs, I was already biased with the need to fulfill that high standard. Overall, Jessica Hawkins is an author not to miss. White Monarch is a series worth reading and re-reading and these characters are unforgettable.
