Gilded Cage is a dark romance retelling of Rumpelstiltskin with two unique characters from different worlds. In this case, we have Mason who is an outsider in his wealthy and powerful community. Mason, himself, feels weak and has one friend that he can relate to. The cherry on his ‘winning life’ sundae is that he has been blessed with a stepmother from H E double L. (**note the sarcasm**)
Aspen has only one job, which is to serve the Stiltskin family, and consequently, only knows of one life. Through this life, she meets one person that she connects with. Mason. She has no friends and no interaction except for what is maintained on the grounds she works for. One night proves to be her downfall when she makes a deal with the devil and doesn’t realize how bad it is until it is too late.
This story was so gritty, mysterious, a bucket full of emotions, a plot that would make a chess player proud, and twists and turns. I must admit that I either overlooked or forgot that this was a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin, but that didn’t hinder the visual imagery that Ms. Lymari was trying to portray. The ability to follow along in my head like a flipbook animation was addicting to read.
FIVE ‘OUTSTANDING’ STARS!!
Phew, she did it again! Ms. Pucci nailed the Romeo and Juliet theme with a twist of her own. Just Like Heaven left us on such a high cliffhanger, I wondered what was next. Sinning Like Hell (*chef’s kiss*) was the perfect continuation for Calder and Sutton!
“I want everything you give, Calder Wolfe. Because there is and will only ever be you and me.”
Here is some of what to expect: incredible highs, carpet sweeping lows, breath wheezing shock, twists, turns, ‘Oh, no, she didn’t,’ and of course, tears. This book had it all. I fully did not expect to cry, but low and behold, I did. Sinning Like Hell was so beautifully written that the love Calder and Sutton share is transcendent. There are no other words to describe it.
Reading this book has reaffirmed my love for Calder. He was written so well that he wasn’t a character to me. He was a real-life person that you could feel had stepped off the pages and right into your living room.
I stand by my review for Just Like Heaven and my description of Calder.
“Calder…tough, bada@@, sensitive, alpha, and loyal. He is the new gold standard in leading men.”
What to say about Sutton without giving it away? Hmmm… Sutton is a breath of fresh air. As a caterpillar metamorphosizes into a beautiful butterfly, so does Sutton. Her transformation is something to be proud of and I love that about her! These two were written in the stars and nothing was going to stand in their way!!
“I love you forever. Until we’re dust and bones and even after that.”
Trilina has a knack for writing insanely well thought out and completely desirable male leads. These men range from businessmen to mafia to even rowers but NEVER has one of these Heroes lived up to all that is Calder Wolfe. Calder…tough, bada@@, sensitive, alpha, and loyal. He is the new gold standard in leading men.
Just Like Heaven is a modern-day re-telling of Romeo and Juliet with Calder Wolfe and Sutton Prescott in those roles. Theoretically, these two should have never met. Their stories should never have even crossed each other’s path, but when two star-crossed lovers are meant to be, there is nothing you can do to stop fate.
“I would do anything for love. Anything for someone to love me so much they’d burn the world down.”
I fear by saying, THIS BOOK IS EVERYTHING, will not do it justice, but seriously, it is everything wrapped up in a tidy little romance book. Angsty, evocative, heart-wrenching, captivating, breath-taking and passionate is just the beginning of describing Calder and Sutton’s story.
Trilina Pucci is hands down making her name in the romance world with stunning books such as Just Like Heaven. Beware this book is a duet and ends with a cliffy (and what a cliffy it is). I’m going to go out on a ledge and say, Calder and Sutton, have replaced Leonardo and Claire as the best Romeo & Juliet!
“Thank you for the stars.” (Sutton)
“They’re almost as pretty as you.” (Calder)
“How would you even know? You haven’t looked at them yet.” (Sutton)
‘Why would I need to look? When to me, you look just like heaven.” (Calder)
