He wrote the rules onto our skinโ€”every ink stroke tragically smeared by the lines weโ€™d crossed.

He claimed it was the only way we could be togetherโ€”the only way we wouldnโ€™t destroy our families.

But there was an exception to his rulesโ€”one he never saw coming.

All I needed was opportunity and a sunburn.

The girl who played by his rules is gone.

IOU by Kristy Marie–Review

IMG_7901

I fell hard for Kristy Marie, her writing and the characters in her Commandeer in Briefs series. I truly did not think I could love main characters more than Theo/Anniston, or the bromance of Theo/Gage. She proved me wrong. I am in serious love with Maverick and Ainsley and their band of side characters.

Ainsley is the girl that you want to be friends with. I think we all could find some aspect of her character that would resonate within ourselves. She is fun, quirky, a โ€˜button pusherโ€™ unintentionally, plucky and strong willed. Despite all these positive characteristics, she is a hot mess. This will lead to many โ€˜adventuresโ€™ with Ainsley and you will be laughing so hard at her antics your ribs will hurt in the morning.

Maverick. It is hard to say his name without wanting to sigh. Maverick is moody, broody, his name alone makes people quiver (and not in a good way sometimes๐Ÿ˜). Despite his rough, stony and cold-hearted outward appearance, he is something else entirely underneath and it only takes one tenacious girl to start poking holes in his faรงade.

Now, take their individual characteristics and combine them. What do you have? Maverick and Ainsleyโ€™s relationship, which will never be boring, always hilarious and my new favorite couple of Kristy Marieโ€™s. IOU is written so entirely well that it will have you feeling the feels. Personally, I cannot help but not looking at the cover and breaking out in a smile. It is fun, refreshing, hilarious, powerful and enduring. I loved every little thing about IOU and am so happy to see Kristy Marie spread her wings and try something new. Well done, Kristy, well done!!

PSโ€ฆOne side character I must mention is Lawrence!! He is downright lovable!!

Interpreter (Commandeer in Briefs series #4) by Kristy Marie

Interpreter is part of Kristyโ€™s, Commandeer in Briefs series, about Timaeus Lambros. I didnโ€™t fully understand how addicting, emotional, love bubble absorbing, and fulfilling Timโ€™s story was going to be.

Kristy writes with such force that you are emotionally driven while reading. These emotions can range from all out comedy, drowning in tears or an overall feeling of satisfaction. It is hot, spicy, and heartwarming. Interpreter hits on all these points and then some.

When reading any book from the CIB series, you just get this feeling like you are returning home. The boys and girls are written so that you feel that you are part of this wonderfully inclusive club, where no one is biologically related, but every single one of these characters is your brother or sister. Tim is no exception.

Timaeus is one of the Marine veterans that Anniston had picked up in Commandeer in Briefs. He has always been somewhat reserved and in Interpreter, we find out why. When Tim is going through an upheaval in every aspect of his life, his โ€˜familyโ€™ is there for him, including Aspen (who is ABSOLUTELY adorable throughout this book). Aspen is the one thing to help Tim begin to accept what is going on in his life. With the rest of his family, he begins to step out into the real world again and it is through this that he meets Milah.

Milah is a delight. She is feisty, driven, adorable, quirky, and in a bind. She is completely lovable with all her idiosyncrasies. Milah is family oriented, has a certain affinity to a little boy named Oliver, and a deeper appreciation for the hearing impaired and ASL speaking community. Through all her Costa Rican feistiness, she is truly a teddy bear inside, albeit a feisty teddy bear.

Iโ€™ve already alluded to some secondary characters in this book but havenโ€™t touched on all of them. Milahโ€™s best friend, Felipe, is a character. He is there to help her, whether that be with fashion tips, men, or reality checks. I think everyone should have a friend like Felipe! The boys of the foundation, along with there significant others are hysterical. They bring so much comedy, itโ€™s nice to revisit with them and their usual banter.

Kristy brought her all when she wrote Interpreter. Interpreter is without a doubt, hands down my favorite book. I still love Cade and his story, Gorgeous, but Tim is magical. She has totally hit it out of the park with Interpreter. I fully believe that this is her best book yet. You will be in for a treat!!

Goodreads

Blurb:
Heartbreakingly beautiful and devastatingly annoying, Timaeus Lambros, a deaf, former military translator, has just been assigned as my co-teacher for the rest of the school year.
His stupid-hot face gets on my nerves.
So does his well-fitting jeans.
Charming and gorgeous men like him should not be teachers.
They should be locked away in a storage closet… with me.
But thatโ€™s just a teachersโ€™ lounge fantasy with a big dreamy sigh attached.
Tim and I can never be a thing. Heโ€™s broody and closed off, while Iโ€™m the new owner of a one-way ticket back to Costa Rica, thanks to budget cuts.
But my Abuelita always said life wasnโ€™t a fairytale. So even if Tim does have a magical tongue and a dreamy body, we still might not get a happily ever after.

About the Author:

A self-proclaimed reader enthusiast, Kristy started her writing journey back in 2009, reading and writing when her daughter was napping. Establishing her place in Corporate America (because something had to pay the bills), writing became her dirty, late-night secret.

After eight long years, she released her debut novel, Commander in Briefs. It was a long road, but she can honestly say, the road less traveled had the most beautiful sights.
The only thing Kristy Marie loves as much as reading and writing is sports! Especially those that require muscles and a nice ass. Her favorite is, and always will be, baseball. She’s such a fan, that she even married her small town’s high school’s centerfielder where they still live with their three badass kids.

Breck

My name is Brecklyn Brannon, and Iโ€™m not who I claim to be.

A year ago, I packed up my promising life in the city for a man I saw only once.

Accepting a temporary job with Cade and four blazing hot veterans should have been my way in.

Except, Cade acts like he would rather be tortured than speak to me.

He can resist all he wants, but I made a promise that I intend to keep.

Even if it costs me everything.

Cade

Iโ€™ve watched her for over a year.

Thereโ€™s something about her that seems familiarโ€ฆ but now that sheโ€™s living here for two weeks, I could care less what it is.

I just want her gone.

Breck is temptation personified, and some lines can’t be crossed.

I’m Major Cade Jameson, and I made a promise, too.

One that I can’t break.

No matter how hard it gets.
