Give Me A Reason by A.L. Jackson–Review

So, what do we have when looking under the cover of Give Me A Reason?

  • Enemies to Lovers
  • Single Dad
  • MC
  • Forbidden Boss
  • Pasts that never die

I was immediate to say ‘yes, please’ at the site of a single dad and MC read. All the other stuff was a bonus, a very good bonus. I adore Ms. Jackson’s lilting writing style. To a former musician/percussionist, this cadence like reading helped to progress the storyline along. Each word, each phrase felt purposely placed which kept this plotline moving. This allowed me as the reader to get sucked in. I felt like I was on a train that kept increasing speed the further along I went.

As mentioned earlier, a part of this book is on the single dad aspect. Trent Lawson has a five-year-old son, Gage, who is his ray of sunshine and “one good thing” in his life. As a secondary character Gage is the best. I could eat up all the adorableness that exuded from Gage.

“He was dressed in jeans, a short-sleeved button up, and his checkered Vans. Looking like the budding bada** that he was.”

Eden Jasmine Murphy appears to be prim, proper, innocent looking. She has a heart the size of Texas and teaches both elementary private school and dance. The only family she has is her father, who happens to be the pastor where Eden works. The thing about Eden is don’t let the external fool you. She may be innocent looking, but when needed, she has the ability to put one in their place.

“Girls like you don’t belong in a place like this. Now go home and lock your door behind you before you regret walking through my door.”

Trent and Eden are nothing short of magical, yet unmagical at the same time. Trent has many demons within him and nipping at his heels, yet when he’s around Eden he’s optimistic. Eden is fighting her own battles, but things seem a little bit brighter with Trent by her side.

What happens when light meets dark? When Eden and Trent cross paths in different settings? I can tell you, Give Me A Reason is what happens. The storyline, plotline, and pacing were well checked and consistently moving. Her characters and their development were hilarious, sexy, scared, and romantical. As the title implies, it’s simply saying, Give Me A Reason why not to read this book.

“One love. One Loyalty. One reason.”

In The Midst Of Chaos by CLymari–Review

Claudia had me hooked from the word ‘Go’. I don’t know how she does it, but I was salivating for more. I needed all the words, and I could not read it fast enough.

In The Midst of Chaos is the first book in her, ‘Crull Brothers’ series. This book contained all things needed for a recipe of chaos. Darker romance, a bada@@ heroine, Nashton (😍sigh), drama, angst, and mischief. Add on top of that there are ties between the Crulls and the Death Disciples, MC. All rolled together in a deliciously intriguing book.

Finley Primrose. Finley is the bada@@ heroine that I LOVE to see in a story. She knows her place in the family but is not going to let anyone tell her what to do. She is fierce, determined, and in love with a Crull brother. Which one is it though, as she is promised to Huxley in an arranged marriage. I wonder how well that is going to work out? 😉

The Crull brothers are Nashton, Huxley, and Duncan. Nashton is the main hero, although all brothers play a part in this story. This story is truly about the Crull and Primrose families, so it’s a treat that we get to read about all the characters involved.

In The Midst Of Chaos is that book that just pulls you in and takes you on a ride from one page to the next. I absolutely adored all aspects of ITMOC. The mystery, the intrigue, the highs and lows, the romance and rekindling of love, twists and turns, and the uncovering of some big ‘ole secrets that will test them as a family. I am so eager and anxious to find out what comes next, I feel like my heart is in my throat waiting with anticipation.

Excerpt

As he
waited for his breathing to calm, I took a moment to marvel in the bulk of the
man lying on top of me. My fingers slid across golden skin colored with a
collage of intricate pictures, symbols and words. My palm curved around strong
deltoid muscles that were well-rounded and powerful. He was big. Strong.
Lethal. And probably not interested in
being the father of my baby.
The thought
made me shift uneasily beneath him. I had to get out of there. I needed to be
alone to collect my thoughts and find my senses. I wiggled and Caleb rolled off
me. I thought he would let me go but he didn’t. Instead he turned my face
towards him and kissed me hard on the mouth.
But I was
leaving. I sat up and began looking for my panties on the floor. Finding them
wedged under the corner of the bed, I slipped them on and began hunting for my
skirt.
“Where are
you going?” He asked.
“I have to
go.”
“Why are
you always running away from me?” He said, an amused sparkle in his eyes. “Will
I see you again?”
I paused
and looked at him over my shoulder. “Do you want to?”
He grinned
and I was momentarily taken back by how beautiful it was.
How
beautiful he was.
“Hell
darlin’, I don’t want you to leave.”
I resumed
looking for my skirt. “I have to leave. I have things to do.”
I found my
skirt in a tangle with my shirt at the foot of the bed.
“At least
let me give you a ride home.” He sat up.
“Its fine. I
can call a cab.” I stood up and slipped my shirt on.
“I’m not
letting you take a cab.”
“Really its
fine.”
He climbed
off the bed, unfazed by his nakedness, and began looking for his boxer shorts.
I paused to drink in the fine display of his muscular body and his still
swollen manhood swinging between his powerful thighs. It was obvious he took
very good care of his body.
He slipped
on his jeans and by the time I had buttoned my blouse and found my phone and
shoes, he was fully dressed and securing his wallet chain to his jeans.
“Ready?” He
asked.
There was
no point arguing.
As he
opened the bedroom door, I mentally braced myself. I wasn’t looking forward to
the walk of shame through the clubhouse. But the hallway was quiet and the
clubhouse was still. Sometime in the night the music had stopped and the party
had wound down.
As soon as
I entered the bar, the stench of last nights partying hit me like a bat to the
face and I had to hold my breath.  The
bar was littered with snoring bikers and the odd club girl asleep where they
had passed out. Bottles lay scattered and spilled everywhere. Stale booze and
body odor were ripe in the air. Caleb took my hand and led me through the mess,
stepping over discarded bottles and sleeping bodies. Musty smoke glittered in
the dusty rays of sunlight bursting into the room from a window above the
jukebox.
Across the
room, an older biker was quietly having sex with a large, partially dressed
woman up against the pool table. His jeans were down around his ankles and his
eyes were closed as he lazily rocked into her. The slap, slap of her large
wobbly boobs against the pool table broke the stillness of the morning.
Further
away, a naked woman lay slumped at the base of a stripper pole with everything
open and on display. She hugged a half-spilled bourbon bottle and snored
loudly. As we passed by her, Caleb shook his head and grabbed a discarded shirt
from a nearby chair to cover her.
“Is she
alright?” I whispered.
“Yeah,
that’s Candy. It’s not the first time she’s passed out there and it won’t be
the last.”
I glanced around me. This place. These
people. This was Caleb’s world. And it reeked of bad choices. Nausea roiled in
the pit of my stomach and I barely made it outside in time before losing the
contents of my stomach.
“Jesus, are
you okay?” Caleb asked, coming up behind me.
I gestured
for him to give me a moment as another wave of nausea washed over me and I
vomited again.
“You drink
too much?” he asked when I finally straightened and walked over to him. “I
don’t remember you being drunk.”
I shook my
head. “I didn’t drink a thing.”
He handed
me a helmet. “Are you okay to ride? Or do you need a minute?”
“I’ll be
okay.”
He led me
over to a row of motorcycles parked alongside the clubhouse. His was a big
black beast with lots of chrome gleaming in the early morning light.
Before he
climbed on, he touched my hand. “Are you sure you’re ok?”
I smiled
brightly but it was fake because I felt weird. Out of place. I didn’t belong
there.
“Yes. I’m
fine.” I said, very aware that I needed to get out of there. I did up my helmet
and climbed onto the back of his bike. “Lets ride.”

Menace by Laramie Briscoe–Review

Ms. Briscoe, Thank you for writing Menace/Mason’s book. I have been swooning over him in previous books and was so excited when he finally got his own story.

Officer Mason ‘Menace’ Harrison is with the Laurel Springs Police Department, where he specifically works with the Moonshine Task Force. Mason is a thirty-four-year-old man, who has sacrificed everything in his life for the past eighteen years. Why? Because this man had a child when he was only sixteen-years-old and was left alone to raise his son, Caleb. That’s right, Mr. Hottie in a uniform is a single dad who has devoted all his time for his son.

“I knew without a doubt, at sixteen-years-old I would do whatever it took to make this boy of mine a success. It’s been a hard eighteen years.”

Caleb is now a senior in high school and has taken it upon himself to set his dad up on an internet dating website. It’s through this dating app that he meets Karina. They go on their date and have a great time, sparks fly, the whole shebang. Afterword, Karina (Rina), ghosted him. Through a career experience day at the local high school, they realize Rina is Caleb’s teacher when Menace goes in to talk to the class.

Here’s the thing. Karina and Menace have a wonderful and loving relationship. They are enjoying the get to know you stage and figuring out the dynamic with Rina dating Caleb’s dad, Menace, while still being Caleb’s teacher. It works and I loved reading about them, but what I really have to gush over is the father/son relationship between Mason and Caleb. Mason is just plain sworthy (swoon + worthy; a hottie worthy of praise) with the way he loves his son (beware of exploding ovaries). Caleb, I freaking loved Caleb. He was very wise and beyond his eighteen years. Of course, he did have to grow up quickly when his dad wasn’t around a lot for work, but he absolutely adores his dad. There was so much love, trust and friendship between these two, it was great to read about a positive father-son relationship.

“If it weren’t for you loving me enough to stick around, I wouldn’t be here. I’ll never know all the sacrifices you made, and I’ll never understand what you went through in order to be the amazing dad you’ve been to me my whole life, but know I love you for every single one of them…I just thought it was important that you know that.”

Karina was almost like a breath of fresh air. Once she got over her hang-up (regarding something that happened on the first date), she was all in with this ready-made family. She took everything in stride and quickly immersed herself with Mason and Caleb like she’s been there the whole time. It was refreshing to read about the growth and development of the characters (father-son, father-Karina, Karina-Caleb and most importantly, Menace, Rina and Caleb as a family). It was beautiful!

“Karina Holland has fuckin turned my life upside down, sideways, and destroyed my careful existence.”

There continues to be a moonshine issue within the high school. This allows the appearance of the MTF to be read about, although a good chunk of the book was dedicated to the new, emerging family and what develops along the way.
I absolutely loved this book and wholeheartedly recommend it to you. MTF is a series, but you could read it as a standalone, as any important factors are explained well (characters and couplings). Even more exciting is that Caleb is going to get his own book!! I can’t wait to read about him.

“The teenage fuckup, the single dad, and the loner of the crew -none of those labels apply any more. The one that does? Mason Harrison; happy man.”

Crux Untamed (Hades Hangman #6) by Tillie Cole–Review

Crux Untamed was one of my most anticipated reads! I knew when I read the blurb that I just had to read it. I was curious from the beginning of the dynamic duo of Cowboy and Hush. Cowboy’s outgoing personality and Hush’s calm and quiet demeanor pulled at me making me wonder what was going on underneath. As soon as I heard that Sia was Ky’s sister, I knew I had to have more.

This book…(smh)…man, this book was everything. It destroyed me in the best way possible. It was dark, gritty, uncomfortable, emotional (totally cried here), passionate and the underlying storyline was magnificent.

“Kärleken ser inte färger. Bara rena hjärter.”

(“Love doesn’t see colors. Just pure hearts.”)

Our three leads are Sia (Elysia), Cowboy and Hush and I LOVED them. They stole my heart and had no concerns with giving it back. Prior to reading, Cowboy and Hush had me intrigued equally. While reading though, Hush, massacred my existence and slowly became my #1 go to guy of the series. Don’t get me wrong, I have other favorites, but Hush will always have an extra piece of my heart.

hush cowboy and sia.jpg

Tillie Cole mentioned that Jesse Williams, Kellan Lutz and Amber Heard were her inspiration for the characters. She did a pretty spot on job with description and transferring that into reader visualization.

“Three sets of blue eyes, all different. All who have walked different paths…All who have seen the full spectrum of life-the good, the bad, and the ugly.”

Sia is the sister to Ky, VP Hades Hangman. When she was seventeen years old, she got into some trouble and drew the attention of Juan Garcia (Mexican cartel). Ky and Styx (Pres of Hades Hangmen) had to go in and kidnap her back. Since this time, she has been hidden on a farm where she happily works with horses, as her own form of equine therapy. Unfortunately, she is indirectly found by Garcia.

“You’re mine, rosa negra. And I’m never letting you go.”

The underlying story and bond between Cowboy and Hush is beautiful, shocking and outright emotional. These twenty-six-year-old Cajun twosomes hale from an incredibly small town in Louisiana. Through much bad blood and incredibly hard to imagine horrific circumstances, they meet and have created a bond so strong, that nothing will destroy it!

Despite the seriousness and emotionally heaviness of this book, Viking and Ky brought forth some much needed instances of laughter. Despite being distraught and tormented, Ky mentioned something that just had me laughing with tears.

“It’s the thought of those fuckers double-teaming you that makes me see red…You’re my baby fucking sister. Now you’re in bed with not one but two brothers, who quite honestly could be fucking each other too. All I see in my head whenever you three are mentioned is a conga line of pussy, cocks and assholes. It’s fucking with my head!”

Truthfully, in all out honesty, Crux Untamed, is one heck of a book. You have Sia, Cowboy and Hush each with their own individual issues/storylines, but then you bring together three different people and meld those storylines into an incredibly heart-wrenching, yet tragically beautiful story, you simply end up with perfection. Everyone has their own very specific role within this threesome, it was exquisite to read. Sia is a broken woman, Hush is a damaged and lonely man, while Cowboy is the free-spirited glue that holds them all together. It was striking to read of them evolving and changing and finding peace within themselves and their souls. A truly impactful story with much greater depth than two men and a woman in a relationship.

“I couldn’t have been prouder to wear the Hangmen patch. Because they were my family…After fighting my demons for so long, I let myself accept the truth. I belonged.”

Bravo to Tillie Cole for another well done Hades Hangman!!

Live Free. Ride Free. Die Free!”
