Lilac by BB Reid–New Release

One world tour. Three rock gods. Their gutsy new guitarist who talks back. Rules are Bound to be broken.

Lilac by B.B. Reid is now live!

MY REVIEW

From bestselling author B.B. Reid comes an unconventional romance and complete standalone.

I, Braxton Fawn, am the luckiest girl alive.
Or so the world keeps telling me.
Every so often, gods walk the earth. This time they came as musicians. When Bound loses its lead guitarist, yours truly is chosen to fill his shoes. From dive bars to the big stage, my instant claim to fame is nothing short of a fairytale. The only problem?
My new bandmates.
Jaded, gorgeous, and ridiculously talented–they’re determined to turn my dream into a nightmare. It’s no secret I wasn’t their first choice. I wasn’t even their last. The label wants a new image, Bound wants me gone, but I’ve got my own agenda.
To succeed I have to survive a world tour, public scrutiny, and idols turned enemies. But the biggest threat of all isn’t a meticulous frontman, a narcissistic bassist, and a drummer with too many secrets.
It’s me.
Somehow, I must resist the temptation of Houston Morrow, Loren James, and Jericho Noble.
It seemed easy enough when I boarded their tour bus, but it only took one city for the lines we’d drawn to blur.
Only sixty-two more to go.

Excerpt

“Be my girlfriend, Braxton Fawn.”

My head knew what to say. My heart was in my throat. I knew it was coming, and somehow, I was still unprepared. I wanted to say yes. I felt it on my tongue, overwhelmed by green apples. All I had to do was shut my mind away, and I’d be his. There was only one problem.

He was asking too much.

I couldn’t pretend his friends weren’t chasing me too.

I wanted them all equally, but I craved them for different reasons. Houston challenged me, Loren worshiped me, and Rich made me feel like I was worthy of redemption.

I didn’t want to give that up.

This tour would end, but the wreckage they will have left of my heart would be permanent. There was only one way I could survive. One way no one got hurt, and…it was impossible. Almost as hopeless as choosing.

Midnight Blue by L.J. Shen–Review: Run, don’t walk, One-click, don’t sample this book. OUTSTANDING!!

LJSMidnightBlueBookCover6x9_MEDIUM.jpg

HOLY FREAKING PHENOMENAL can Leigh write!!!! Where to start on this one, there are a million positive thoughts that are flying through my mind right now. How about on a side note. Look at this freaking book cover. Is it not beautiful?! Not only can she write, but she has great book covers.

‘Alex Winslow was beautiful in a way storms were—only from afar. Just like them, he had the power to sweep and ruin you, two things I was too busy surviving to entertain.’

I am in LOVE with Alex Winslow. He is a rock star, who is beautifully broken and flawed, yet is a sweetheart when you get down to his core (which you need to dig very far to get too). He has many demons that are screaming down his neck to which he is fighting and trying to outrun. Due to this, he has done some things that he’s not proud of. One happens to be becoming an addict. His addictions have really hurt him, as a person and an artist. He has been to rehab already and is trying to remain sober, despite all the temptations around him. He is rude, a jerk and a nasty self-centered a-hole! Despite all this, I flipping LOVED him! Gosh, there’s just something about a misunderstood asshole! 😍

‘Soooo. Spill it, girl. What’s he like?’…’Disgusting, Gorgeous, Rude, Sexy, Screwed-up. Witty. Broody, Unbearable. Trouble. Trouble. Trouble. Alex Winslow was all those things and more.’

He is about to embark on a world tour and has been assigned a babysitter. This babysitter is tasked to keep him clean and sober. She is to report back to his management team if she notices anything amiss with him. Sounds extreme, but this almost thirty-year-old has a lot riding on remaining sober. First and foremost, his good name, reputation and his own soul. Secondly, if he remains sober and has a killer tour, his second album can be and will be more to his liking and not so ‘manufactured’.

‘Welcome to my mess, New Girl. It’s a bumpy ride from here on out.’

Insert, Indigo ‘Stardust’ Bellamy, aka…Indie. She is as unique and breathtaking as her name and blue hair. She is sweet, pure, puts people first and loving. They are two souls that shouldn’t make sense together, yet somehow do. She is an incredible heroine in this book. She is strong and doesn’t take crap from anyone (especially Alex), yet is completely unselfish and loving. Her one and only fault is her loyalty and need to take care of those that are closest to her and her heart. I, honestly, don’t know if I would have put up with her brother as much as she did. Because of her loyalty, she needed this job.

‘I needed this job like Mark Wahlberg needed to show his real junk in Boogie Nights.’

This book is everything!! Asshole male…. check; sweet yet strong female…check; Rockstar romance…duh, check; a story that has so many intertwining layers, the book should be called ‘The Midnight Blue Onion’…check; hot romance…double check; drama and angst…check; emotions that are so strong you find your heart in your throat…triple check. The only thing I wish I had…. MORE ALEX and INDIE!!😢

Leigh did everything right in Midnight Blue from plot, storyline and pacing, to writing remarkable characters that spring to life and include you on that roller coaster of emotions. She made me love Alex and his Rockstar romance!!

“When I look at you, I see something broken that isn’t worth fixing. And you look at me like I’m a cheap thing to replace the expensive one that’s been stolen from you. See, we’re all vases. And you’re the one scattered on the floor, shattered beyond repair. So I’ll let someone else pick you up. It’s really that simple. Have fun with your temporary glue.”

Jaybird by M.A. Foster

Jaybird is a debut novel by MA Foster.  Ms. Foster did a phenomenal job for her first book.  Well done, Ms. Foster, well done.

Jaybird is about Jayla King; whose father is Marcus King.  He is the lead singer of a super successful rock band, Royal Mayhem. Due to this, her parents have been overprotective of her while doing their best to keep her out of the limelight that this atmosphere might bring. Despite being young, she has written many songs off of Royal Mayhem’s newest album titled ‘Jaybird’, play multiple instruments and can sing.

Jayla has many people in her life that love her and care for her.  There are a multitude of characters in this book from her family, friends and fellow peers in high school that help explore the multiple sides of Jayla and her life. These band of characters are interwoven so well in Jayla’s storyline that you can truly feel the scene develop in front of your eyes. Jayla’s personal development is also noticeable from cover to cover.  She has had some major success and happiness while also experiencing some of life’s worst situations. Through all this, you see Jayla come out as a strong woman who will not ‘cower’ from life’s tragedies, but will ‘Conquer’.

Jaybird is a very emotional book that allows you to truly feel ‘the feels’. It is amazing how you can be crying one minute and laughing so hard the next.  (True story: my husband actually asked me if I was ‘ok’, because I was crying and then started laughing.  How dare he insinuate I’m an emotional woman, right!!) In any case, that is good writing!

My favorite quote is from a song that Jayla wrote, called ‘Fight Song’.

“When she sings about scars, she runs her finger across the scar in her hairline. When she sings about pain, she presses her hand over her heart. As the song comes to an end, my girl stands up and flexes her bicep, and points to her “Conquer” tattoo and the whole room erupts in cheers.”

4.5 stars

PS…there is one heck of a good playlist on Spotify that goes along with this book!
