Sabotage by Shantel Tessier–Review

Straight out of the gate, beware of the trigger warnings. Shantel Tessier does a good job of explaining what they are. There are dark romances and then there are the other dark romances that make ‘dark’ romances seem sunny and bright. This isn’t sunny and bright.

From the first word in the prologue, you know that you are headed for some hot, steamy, and dare I say, erotic times. Colton and Raylee are stepsiblings with a vehement hatred for each other. It’s not clearly explained why they hate each other so much, just that as stepsiblings they do. Because of this, there is a flowing push/pull thread weaved throughout the book.

If you like hot, steamy, yet degraded, and submissive heroines, then Raylee is your girl. If you like over-the-top, alpha, and uber possessive (she’s mine and you can’t have her) heroes, there is Colton. Beyond that, I had trouble finding a plotline. The storyline itself was hit and miss. There were certain situations that just happened, but it didn’t make sense overall, nor had a resolution to some.

I have read other books from Shantel and have loved them, yet it saddens me that Sabotage was just kind of there and I read it because it was available. I will continue to her read books, but this one just didn’t hit the mark for me.

Thirteen Hours To You by Annie Emerson–Review

Sometimes in life, you are blessed to come across people that will enrich your lives and make you feel full. You can take this premise and apply it to Annie Emerson’s debut duet, Thirteen Hours to You. This is the book that you never knew you needed but was everything you were waiting for.

Our main characters are Boo Radley Cooper and Meekai James Lannister. A story about two teenagers who are thirteen hours apart. Teenagers that have no knowledge of each other, yet somehow, fate works her magic and these two are pulled together and into each other’s orbit.

“Sometimes goodbyes lead to a second chance. If I see you again, it’ll mean that this goodbye was meant as a beginning, not an end. Fate, The first point of contact.”

~Meekai

Radley Cooper has had an extraordinarily horrible and sad upbringing. With the little breadcrumb trail that Annie leaves us, it is difficult not to feel for this girl and yet, salivating to know the whole story. I will say that nobody should have to go through what she went through, yet unfortunately, it happens every day in real life. **Beware of Triggers**

“His time would come. I’d make sure he paid for his sins. I’d deliver him personally. My kingdom come. My will be done. You might have me now, but I’ll destroy you later.”

~Radley

Meekai is the golden boy. He is the manwhore who is looking for his other piece. The one that when they come together just clicks into place. When Radley and Kai meet, they realize they have more in common than they thought and are slowly fixing/healing one another.

There is another subset of characters that brought a lot to the Radley/Meekai table. Gamma alone is worth every penny spent. She is utterly amazing, intuitive and everything I would like in a ‘Gamma’. Becca, Brooks, Linc and Wyatt. The incredible secondary cast that keeps things rocking and rolling. These four are on another level of family/friendship, but most of all, D-R-A-M-A!! All their drama. Bring it on because I am loving the drama that surrounds this group. I live for this!!

This book has left me speechless. It is haunting, ethereal, roaring with humor, tender, the concept of a strong family unit, learning to love/trust not only yourself but another. It leaves you questioning, ‘can love truly win in the end’? For a debut book, Thirteen Hours to You, is outstanding. There were so many times that I felt I was not only an outsider looking in, but I was truly engrained in the story and present for each scene. Annie Emerson wrote her heart out when writing this book. It will easily land on my ‘Best of 2021’ list. Now, beware, there is a second book that is coming out soon (May), but the ending of book 1 leaves you wanting more, but not with a horribly bad cliffhanger. I am just so ready now to see how this ends!!

Congratulations Ms. Emerson on a book beautifully written. If I could, I would give you 10 ⭐, but since I cannot, I will leave you 5⭐ and a BIG welcome to the ‘best of’ list! Enjoy reading this book. Radley and Meekai will suck you in and pull you along for the ride.

“Where words fail, music speaks.”

In Peace Lies Havoc by Amo Jones–Review

It seems that no matter what I read from Amo, she not only leaves me speechless, but craving more. She is single handedly a one-woman Mistress of Ceremonies in charge of her own little Midnight Mayhem crew.

“Welcome to Midnight Mayhem. We are not a circus, we are not a carnival, and the only thing that you should be afraid of losing tonight, is your sanity…”

I, seriously, thought that nothing could top my epic love of the ‘Elite Kings Club’, but I humbly admit, I was wrong. As much as I loved, Bishop, Nate, Brantley and the crew, the Brothers of Kiznitch have not so nicely pushed them off that trophy. The Brothers (Kingston, Killian, Keaton, and Kyrin) have marched into my heart and taken up residence.

When reading, sit back and enjoy. There are so many layers to this story, that you will still have layers to go through before you would finish pulling off the layers of an onion. IPLH is dark, it’s twisty, it’s shocking, it’s mesmerizing, and it’s so gloriously good, that you’ll question everything you think know about yourself and want more. I know I do!!
King is broody, mysterious, a walking talking dichotomy, that leaves no one unaffected if he crosses their path. He is a mesmerization that can make anybody due anything. What he can’t do is Dove. Just beware that King (and his brothers) will steal your heart and soul and make you wonder if you should start praying to a higher deity for absolution. They are that wickedly good.

Dove is the dark red-haired ballet dancing beauty. She can transform and entice you with her fluidity and ability draw you in while she dances. Dancing is life to her. She can work through anything, if she is able to dance and feel the music. Dove has a long and complicated backstory, which is what draws you in. Amo gives enough flashbacks, moments of déjà vu, and internal gut checks that keep you drawn to Dove wanting to figure her out.

“We’ll be back, Dovey. I’ll hear you when you speak. I’ll see you when you dance. I’ll always be watching you…”

As much as this story is about King and Dove, it also is about the rest of the brothers. Their introduction into your life is tantalizing, mystifying, and perplexing. I was drawn into them and their various personalities, that I want more and loved the strength of the foursome as one unit.

I don’t know how she does it, but Amo wrote IPLH in such a way that you felt you were experiencing the multiple levels of Mayhem as they happen. She starts you off thinking individually. What is happening right now and to whom. She then progresses to thinking grand scheme of the whole thing and who plays what part. Honestly, it’s freaking genius how she writes. You begin to pick up on little nuggets, but only because the MC herself, declares it’s time to reveal a little something. There are so many events and things in this book, that I feel as if I just got off a roller coaster that was also a tilt-a-whirl. Confused, shocked, bewildered, jaw dropping, and a book hangover from hades is me right now. Last point I want to make is, her writing is so crystal clear that I can visually picture what she is talking about. The big tent, the caravans, the acts😏 is incredibly hard to write, but Amo has exceeded my expectations with being able to ‘visually’ take me to these people, places, and things. I can’t wait to see where this storyline progresses.
Overall, In Peace Lies Havoc, is a phenomenal read. It will test your boundaries, question everything you know, and will take you on an incredible journey. IPLH is visually stunning, eloquently written, and sinfully sexy.

**Beware, this is a dark story. There are trigger warnings within the book.**

5 ‘Little Bird’ Stars (if able to give more, I would!)

Favorite quote of the book:

“I wouldn’t recommend this author, though. She drinks too much, procrastinates a lot, and is easily distracted.”
